This Grace X Originals Quality Ankara Face Mask is made from the Kente Ankara pattern. It has a special meaning for those of us here in the diaspora who would like to reach in to our heritage and represent our culture in a new way. According to Wikipedia, Kente comes from the word kenten, which means basket in the Asante dialect of Akan. Akans refer to kente as nwentoma, meaning woven cloth. It is an Akan royal and sacred cloth worn only in times of extreme importance and was the cloth of kings. Over time, the use of kente became more widespread.
The Ankara Kente Mask is stylish while checking all those ancestral boxes. The inner lining is our hand-dyed Shibori natural indigo with 100 % cotton pocket and lanyard straps featuring bronze aglets and a toggle clasp. This is a light mask great for hot summer days, without sacrificing any of the layers of protection you will find in our denim masks. Make it a staple in your wardrobe. Invest in the entire collection for the best mask wardrobe around!
Upgrade this style to our available “PUNKED-UP” spiked version for added effect and extra compliments on your Afro-Punk style!
About the Construction
Built with form AND function in mind, we make our masks with the utmost quality, from our fabric choices to the quality of the stitching. We created a specially molded design that fits the face allowing for better airflow and more breathe-ability for the wearer. We included a mask wire pocket in the design for easy replacement (All aluminum wire break after about 40 bends) with 3 extra nose wires and a filter pocket with a matching Shibori hand-dyed 4 layer filter. This mask is the ultimate in mask safety, comfort and style. As a cancer survivor, I am glad to say I feel secure wearing this mask into the local city council meeting. 🙂
