Having grown up in Hong Kong, I am deeply influenced by Asian culture. Japanese culture, from traditional to pop, has always been a huge influence in my art practice. The ancient Japanese method of indigo dyeing called “aizome” (藍染め) is deeply entrenched in the culture of Japanese artisanal textile craft. The art and practice of “Shibori” (絞り- “press & fold” in Japanese) are also utilized to achieve the desired pattern. The results are always stunning and always totally unique. In addition to the magical beauty of the natural blues of the the indigo dye, it is also naturally antibacterial, and has dirt repelling qualities(!) which makes it a perfect choice for the construction of my masks. Grace X masks feature my exclusive lanyard style that saves the ears from stress and holds the mask securely to the face. For more info on HOW to wear my masks, click HERE!
About the Construction
Built with form AND function in mind, we make our masks with the utmost quality, from my fabric choices to the quality of the stitching. I created a specially molded design that fits the face allowing for better airflow and more breathe-ability for the wearer. I included a mask wire pocket in the design for easy replacement (All aluminum wire break after about 40 bends) with 3 extra nose wires and a filter pocket with a matching Shibori hand-dyed 4 layer filter. This mask is the ultimate in mask safety, comfort and style. As a cancer survivor, I am glad to say I feel secure wearing this mask into Walmart. 🙂
